This was a costume construction project undertaken in my second year of university; designing and making Victorian underwear. As you can see it involved creating a historically accurate corset and bustle, both made to fit my own measurements. The corset was cut on the stand (after padding it up to match my size) and the bustle used flat pattern cutting. This project involved a wide range of construction skills including inserting boning, pleating, making a theatre waistband, attaching eyelets and buttons, and creating buttonholes. I also developed my pattern-matching skills considerably whilst making the bustle as I used a checked tartan fabric.
